Daily Counselling Service

Daily and on-going Counselling

Daily Counselling is available throughout the week from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm by appointment, and ongoing counselling by appointment with a Counsellor between 9:00 amd and 4:00 pm with the exception of Wednesdays, when the Centre closes at 12.30 pm.

Women’s Shelter Referrals

The Women’s Centre provides shelter referrals for women and their children who are currently experiencing homelessness as a result of many contributing factors, including domestic violence.

Special Interest Groups

The Women’s Centre runs many special interest groups through the year. Such groups are run with the aim of meeting the needs and achieving positive outcomes for women within the community.

Activism

Activism plays a significant role within the Women’s Centre, as we seek to advocate for women’s rights, empowerment, raise community awareness, promote and act for social and political change. Such activities we proudly facilitate and take part in include:

  • International Women’s Day  (8th March )
  • Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month  (May)  
  • Reclaim the Night March (last Friday in October)
  • Sexual Violence Awareness Month (October)
  • 16 Days of Activism  (November 25th – December 10th)

Outreach to Ingham, Ayr and Charters Towers

The Women’s Centre provides outreach and support services to Ingham, Ayr and Charters Towers on a monthly basis.  This is primarily a Sexual Assault service, however counselling, support and information can also be provided to women about any women's issues. Women in these areas can access the service by calling the Women’s Centre on (07) 4775 7555 to make an appointment.

Training and Community Education

The Women's Centre provides community education on sexual assault, domestic violence and healthy relationships to schools, and other organisations on request.

Together with The North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service and Sera's Women's Shelter, we are a part of PAVE (Providers of Anti Violence Education) which provides community education on domestic and family violence to the community.
